Before You Go to Malaysia

Important Documents
Singaporean nationals do not require a visa for a stay of less than one month in Malaysia. A valid passport, or internationally recognised travel document valid for travelling to Malaysia, is required for entry into Malaysia, and should be valid for more than six months from the date of entry.
Customs
Goods exempted from duty include wine/spirit/malt/liquor not exceeding 1 litre, and tobacco not exceeding 225 grams (equal to 200 sticks of cigarettes or 50 cigars). Travellers are permitted to carry ringgit notes not exceeding RM 1,000 per person into and out of Malaysia, and are required to declare foreign currency notes and traveller’s cheques if the total amount exceeds USD 10,000.
Notable prohibited items are illegally-reproduced currencies, indecent or pornographic materials, certain fruits from Philipines and Indonesia, daggers and flick knives, poisonous chemicals, radioactive materials, firearms (including imitations), dangerous weapons, narcotics, fireworks.
Departure Tax
Each outbound passenger must pay a departure tax of RM 40 for international departures and RM 5 for domestic departures, which is usually already included in the ticket price.
When To Go
Year-round travel is possible, as rain falls fairly evenly throughout the year and the difference between the rainy season (October to April) and the rest of the year is not great. However, travel along the east coast is affected by heavy rain from November to February. Peak tourist seasons are from the beginning of December to the end of January, and from June to mid-September.
